This free tool preserves the actual MIDI performance, including notes, velocities, timing, tempo changes, and continuous sustain-pedal data. It removes Yamaha XF declarations, guide-track metadata, and non-standard XF chunks that can prevent some Disklavier models and other MIDI players from recognizing or playing a file correctly.

How to use the XF stripper
- Select or drag in one or more .mid or .midi files.
- Click Strip XF Data.
- Download each cleaned MIDI file, or download the complete batch as a ZIP file.
What is removed?
The tool removes external Yamaha XF chunks, including XFIH and XFKM data, along with internal sequencer-specific XF declarations and guide-track information. It then rebuilds the file as a standards-compliant MIDI file with valid track lengths and end-of-track markers.
What is preserved?
This tool does not alter notes and velocities, tempo and time-signature changes, continuous sustain-pedal data, program changes and ordinary MIDI controllers, track timing and musical duration, or standard MIDI text and marker events
Your original files are not modified. Cleaned files are created as new downloads. Temporary files are automatically removed from the server after approximately 24 hours.
Why strip Yamaha XF data?
XF is Yamaha’s extension of the Standard MIDI File format. It can add lyrics, chord information, guide-track settings, and other Yamaha-specific features. Some older instruments can display an XF song but fail to calculate its duration or begin playback correctly. Removing the XF-specific information can make the underlying MIDI performance usable as a conventional MIDI file.
