Things to Know

This system is playback only.

A DKC-850 can replace this controller, but the installation requires the correct model-specific harness—not an ordinary VGA cable. My DKC-850 conversion-cable guide explains the original Yamaha cable and the replacement adapters made by Richie Hayes. On a PRO piano, the replacement operates in STANDARD mode and does not preserve PRO/XP recording.

If a computer reports an original Yamaha Disklavier floppy as unformatted, do not format it. My Disklavier floppy-recovery guide explains why this happens, and my tested USB floppy-drive guide identifies hardware that can read 720 KB/2DD disks.

Nalbantov replacements are model-specific. My Nalbantov floppy-upgrade guide identifies the standard, slim, and dedicated versions; do not assume that a generic Gotek—or any Nalbantov—will fit.
