The MX100II is the built-in controller used in MX100II, MPX100II, and HQ100 second-generation (Mark II) Disklaviers. It records and plays Yamaha’s older E-SEQ format; some units can also play Standard MIDI Files, and several playback and controller upgrades are available.

Things to Know
Some MX100II, MPX100II, and HQ100 units may not support SMF0 playback. See how to determine if your MX100II / MPX100II / HQ100 supports MIDI playback.
Not to be confused with the similarly named MX100B.
If replacing the floppy disk drive, use my Nalbantov model guide to find the proprietary slim drive that almost fits it. You’ll also need an insert so that the drive fits properly. I include a 3D model in that article, which is freely available.
Note that if a Nalbantov USB emulator is installed, a properly formatted USB stick must be left inserted in order to use Bluetooth MIDI, PianoStream, or other external MIDI devices.
You can use an external tone generator like the MU50 (or TG100) plus speakers. This allows you to play PianoSoft Plus floppy disks rather than only PianoSoft Solo, and adds some of the capability of the Mark II XG. TG100- and MU50-targeted PianoSoft Plus titles are not completely interchangeable: the MU50 supports the broader XG title family, while the older TG100 does not provide full XG compatibility.
If this individual unit supports Standard MIDI Files but rejects a Type 1 file or plays only part of it, my free MIDI Type 1-to-Type 0 converter can create the single-track Type 0 copy these older controllers expect. It cannot add Standard MIDI support to an E-SEQ-only unit.
On this model, the documented DKC-850 path is a MIDI-cable add-on rather than a controller replacement, so it keeps the original controller and does not enable the DKC-850 online services. If a computer reports an original Yamaha Disklavier floppy as unformatted, do not format it. My Disklavier floppy-recovery guide explains why this happens, and my tested USB floppy-drive guide identifies hardware that can read 720 KB/2DD disks.
