The first thing I would resolve before buying a Williams Legato IV is the action description. A buyer should not have to infer the mechanism from a name, a photograph or a light shipping weight. This is an instance where an apparently tidy comparison table would be misleading if it concealed inconsistent documentation.
The action claim needs confirmation
Williams’s published specifications call the keyboard velocity-sensitive in the detailed features, while other headings call it a graded weighted hammer action. The owner’s manual introduces a touch-sensitive keyboard on page 4 and uses weighted, velocity-sensitive wording on page 16. I have not resolved those descriptions into a verified mechanism. Ask for written confirmation of the exact action and, preferably, try the instrument.
What the connection specification does establish
The current page lists twelve voices, Bluetooth audio and MIDI, headphone and line outputs, and USB MIDI with stereo audio out to a computer or tablet. These are useful features, but none answers the mechanical-action question. I would not treat touch sensitivity and hammer action as synonyms.
Documentation and practical support are different
The manual directs owners to Williams for parts and service information on page 7. That is a genuine contact route and should be acknowledged. It does not tell me whether a particular contact strip, key component or circuit board can actually be supplied, at what price, or to an independent technician.
My Williams repair experience has generally left me dissatisfied with construction and practical support. This is the reason for my caution, not evidence of a current Legato IV teardown or a documented recurring defect. I would not use an ambiguous product description to invent either a favorable action assessment or a negative failure history.
My recommendation to a buyer
For piano lessons, establish what the teacher expects from the action before committing to a kit. Then compare the whole stand, pedal and seating setup through the digital piano comparison guide. If the seller cannot clearly establish the feature that matters most to your purchase, I would resolve that uncertainty before buying rather than rely on a return later.
Already have a Legato IV with a problem? contact me with the model label and symptom. An unclear marketing description is not a diagnosis, and a useful repair may still depend on identifying one obtainable part.
Williams provides support and manuals. That is not the same as confirming that an independent technician can obtain the particular part your piano needs. Ask about parts for the exact model and revision before treating future repair as a given.

From the service side
My technician’s perspective
Firsthand brand-level repairs; no exact-model teardown claimed
My Williams service concerns are based on instruments I have repaired, not an exact-model Legato IV teardown. Williams publishes a parts/service contact in the manual; my concern is whether the required replacement can actually be obtained and fitted economically. I have not treated conflicting action wording as a settled technical fact.
