Yamaha Disklavier E3 Power Supply Testing & Rebuild Service

If your Yamaha Disklavier E3 will not power on, or turns on but will not actually play, the power supply may be the problem. This is relatively easy for you to test yourself. If this is the problem, I provide a complete power supply rebuild service.

This service is for full Yamaha Disklavier E3 system power supply assemblies, not upgrade systems such as the DKC-850. Yamaha Disklavier E3 pianos have an original DKC-800 control unit, with a CD player and USB drive on the front.

How to check the test button

Before shipping anything, make sure the main switch on the power supply is on and that the AC cable is fully connected. There is a large power switch on the power supply, and if this is switched off, then the piano will not turn on.

Make certain the “MAINS” switch is flipped to the ON position; otherwise, nothing will work.

Yamaha Disklavier E3 systems have the small test button on their power supplies, next to a row of four LED lights. The button is recessed into a small hole. If you can clearly identify that button, press it once.

When the system is powered on, lights #2 and #4 should be lit and green. When you push the test button, lights #1 and #3 should turn on and be lit orange. They should stay lit as long as the test button is depressed. Light #3 will typically turn off immediately when you release the test button, while light #1 will slowly dim. This is normally behavior.

When the reset button is pressed, lights #1 and #3 should light up orange.

If either lights #2 and #4 are always off, or if lights #1 and #3 fail to turn on when the test button is pressed, then you have a power supply issue.

If you are not completely sure you have found the correct button, stop there and contact me here with photos first.

What I do

I rebuild the Yamaha E3 power supply assembly using current Yamaha parts, inspect the assembly, and bench-test it before return. During a rebuild, I replace both the 12 V and 48 V systems in the power supply, bringing it back to like-new condition.

Price

Mail-in Yamaha Disklavier E3 power supply rebuild: $695.00

This price includes bench work and insured return shipping. Shipping to me is separate.

This service is for the power supply assembly only, not removal from or installation in the piano unless separately arranged. You will have to remove the power supply yourself.

Shipping instructions

Please contact me before shipping. Texting is usually the fastest way to reach me.

  • Send only the power supply assembly unless I ask for something else. I do not need cables, mounts, or other components.
  • Pack it in a strong box with generous padding on all sides. The power supply is heavy. Use large cell bubble wrap.
  • Include your name, return address, phone number, and email.

Ship to the following address:

Alex’s Piano Service LLC
4 Scammon St.
Suite 19-406
Saco, ME 04072

Important safety note

Do not open the power supply case unless you are qualified to work around high voltage. Even with the piano unplugged, a power supply can still store dangerous voltage.

Local service

If you are in Southern Maine, I may also be able to handle this as a local service job. For customers farther away, mail-in service is usually the simplest option.
