Description

These are in production, but are not yet available! You can pre-order them now.

This is a newly manufactured replacement for the discontinued 12-note rubber key contact strip used in select Roland HP and KR digital pianos. It replaces Roland service part 22185249, described in Roland service documentation as a Rubber Switch 12P, and cross-references to Syntaur catalog part #1286.

Original contact strips in these instruments are now decades old. As the conductive contacts and surrounding rubber age or become contaminated, notes may stop playing, trigger intermittently, respond unevenly, or sound at an unexpectedly high volume. This new-production strip was developed from original samples and tested in a compatible piano for proper operation.

A new replacement for a long-discontinued part

These contacts are new production: Newly molded silicone rubber rather than a used part or aging new-old stock.

Full 12-note layout: One complete octave section with the contact geometry required by the compatible keybed.

Correct sharp-key relief: Reproduces the distinctive raised underside geometry used at the five black-key positions.

Sectionable design: Molded cut lines allow the strip to be separated into the shorter end configurations used in the original keyboard layout.

Easy to identify: The green silicone clearly distinguishes this newly manufactured replacement from the original dark or light-colored strips.

Me and my manufacturer precision engineered to match the original strips as closely as possible. These restore play without altering touch sensitivity. My contacts are lime green, and the originals are gray.

Part numbers and catalog cross-references

I’ve included the Syntaur numbers below solely as catalog cross-references.

Roland service documentation lists the full contact strip as 22185249 and shows the shorter sections being formed at designated cut lines; it does not list separate Roland service numbers for those cut sections. Do not confuse this strip with Roland 22185247, which belongs to a different PA-4/PA-4A keyboard assembly and is not interchangeable.

Verified compatible Roland models

The following models are cross-referenced to the same 12-note contact strip. Compatibility assumes the instrument still has its original compatible keyboard assembly.

Fitment note: Do not identify the strip by the appearance of the keys alone. Roland used more than one rubber-contact design in visually similar weighted keyboards, and older SK-6 parts are not interchangeable with the SK-6L-family parts used here. Compare the original strip, mounting points, underside geometry, and contact-board layout before ordering.

Choosing the correct quantity

Each item is one full 12-note strip. A complete keyboard uses multiple strips and may also require shorter 4-note or 8-note end sections, depending on the model and keyboard size. The new strip includes the molded separation pattern needed to create those end sections, but it should be cut only at the designated lines and in the configuration required by the original layout.

For a localized problem, replacing only the affected strip may be sufficient. For widespread intermittent, silent, or abnormally loud notes, inspect the complete key-contact system before deciding how many strips to replace.

Installation and diagnosis

Installation requires substantial disassembly of the keyboard and is recommended for an experienced digital-piano or electronic-keyboard technician. Disconnect the instrument from power before service. The contact circuit boards should be inspected and cleaned appropriately during installation.

A failed contact strip is not the only possible cause of note-response problems. Corrosion, contamination, damaged contact boards, loose or cracked ribbon cables, and mechanical key faults can produce similar symptoms. This replacement will not correct damage elsewhere in the instrument.
