Sergei Rachmaninoff

Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873–1943) was one of the last great Romantic composers, renowned for his sweeping melodies, rich harmonies, and formidable piano writing. A virtuoso pianist and conductor, Rachmaninoff combined technical brilliance with deep emotional intensity, creating works that are both expansive and deeply personal.

His music—including piano concertos, symphonies, solo piano works, and songs—reflects a distinctive blend of Russian lyricism and late-Romantic expressiveness. Forced to leave Russia after the 1917 Revolution, he spent his later years in the West, where he continued to perform and compose, leaving a legacy that remains central to the piano repertoire and beloved by audiences worldwide.
