Franz Schubert

Franz Schubert (1797–1828) was a central figure of the early Romantic era, celebrated for his extraordinary gift for melody and emotional depth. Although he lived only 31 years and achieved limited public recognition during his lifetime, Schubert composed an astonishing body of work, including symphonies, chamber music, piano sonatas, and more than 600 lieder (art songs) that transformed the relationship between poetry and music.

His music blends Classical formal clarity with a deeply personal, lyrical voice, often conveying profound intimacy, longing, and beauty. Schubert’s influence on later Romantic composers was immense, and his works remain foundational to the piano and vocal repertoire today.
