Franz Liszt
Franz Liszt (1811–1886) was one of the most dazzling and influential musicians of the Romantic era, celebrated both as a revolutionary composer and the greatest piano virtuoso of his time. A touring superstar in his youth, Liszt transformed piano technique with unprecedented technical demands and expressive possibilities, helping to elevate the instrument to a new artistic level.
His compositions range from transcendently virtuosic showpieces to deeply spiritual and innovative works, including the Hungarian Rhapsodies, piano sonatas, symphonic poems, and sacred music. As a teacher, conductor, and musical thinker, Liszt championed new music, supported fellow composers, and reshaped the role of the performer-composer, leaving a lasting imprint on the language of Romantic music and beyond.
