Doctor Jazz

Doctor Jazz is a 44-file collection focused on piano ragtime and early jazz. Most selections date from roughly 1902-1939, and some filenames point to their original source material, including specific piano rolls (for example Roll 075 00031).

Composer credits in this folder include Ferdinand ‘Jelly Roll’ Morton (Kansas City Stomps, The Crave), Scott Joplin (Rose Leaf Rag, Sugar Cane), Eubie Blake (Classic Rag), Zez Confrey (Kitten on the Keys), and James P. Johnson (Modernistic), plus standards like My Gal Sal and Bill Bailey. Where known, the filenames also preserve who sequenced or performed the roll/transcription (“seq”/”pb”)—notably Bill Edwards, Irwin Schwartz, John Farrell, and W. S. Trachtman.

These pieces are suitable for the Mark I and Mark II Disklaviers.
